Take your pizza making experience to the next level by making Grilled Pizzas with pizza dough, and your choice of pizza sauce and toppings! Cooking pizza on the grill gives it a wonderful taste and texture that you don’t get from a regular oven.

You can use homemade pizza dough (my recipe makes 2 large pizzas) or store-bought for this recipe, layer it with your choice of pizza sauce and toppings, and cook it to crisp, chewy, melty perfection, right on the grill.

Did you know you can cook pizzas using your own grill–gas, charcoal, or even a Traeger? It’s the next best thing to having your very own pizza oven, and it doesn’t require any special equipment or a pizza stone!

We make a lot of homemade pizzas at our house, and the grill is definitely my favorite way to cook them! The crust gets nice and crisp on the outside but soft and chewy on the inside. I love to make personal pan size so that everyone can choose their own toppings.

How to Grill Pizza:

  • Make sure grill is well cleaned and oiled, to prevent the crust from sticking. Close the grill lid and preheat to about to 425 degrees (medium-high heat) for 10 minutes.
  • Stretch or roll dough into desired size and thinness (or divide into equal portions to make smaller pizzas) and place on a piece of parchment paper.
  • Brush the top(s) of the prepared dough with oil, then lift the parchment the dough is on and carefully flip the crusts onto the grill, oil side down. Peel the parchment paper off.

  • Cover and cook for 2-3 minutes and check for doneness with tongs to see if the bottom side has grill marks and is golden brown. Flip the pizzas onto a plate and add sauce and toppings to the cooked side.
  • Lower the grill heat slightly and place pizzas back onto the grill to cook the bottom side for another 3-5 minutes, until cheese is melted and bottom crust is golden.

Pro Tip:

If it’s your first time grilling pizza, you could flatten a tiny piece of the dough and test it out on the grill first, before making a larger pizza.
