How to make Chocolate Banana Bread:
Mix Wet Ingredients: Mash bananas in a mixing bowl then add egg, vanilla, brown sugar, granulated sugar, and cinnamon and stir well to combine.
Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate small bowl, stir together flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt then add to banana mixture and stir to combine.
Finish Batter: Gently stir in melted butter and ¾ cup chocolate chips then pour batter into prepared pan and sprinkle remaining ¼ cup chocolate chips over the top.
Bake at 350 degrees F for 55-65 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow to cool in the pan for 5-10 minutes before inverting onto a wire cooling rack.
Storage and Freezing Instructions:
To Store: This easy chocolate banana bread will keep at room temperature for 3-5 days.
To Freeze: Allow to cool completely and then store in an airtight container or freezer safe bag for up to 3 months. Thaw to room temperature before serving.

- 3 large overripe bananas (about 1 ¼ cups), mashed
- 1 large egg
- 1 Tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup light brown sugar
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 cup all-purpose flour , or white-whole wheat
- ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 Tablespoons unsalted butter , melted (or substitute applesauce)
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips , divided
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a loaf pan with parchment paper and spray lightly with non-stick cooking spray.
- Mash bananas in a mixing bowl. Add egg, vanilla, brown sugar, granulated sugar, and cinnamon and stir well to combine.
- In a separate small bowl, stir together flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Add to banana mixture and stir to combine.

This chocolate chocolate chip bread has my whole heart (as far as baked goods are concerned. It is so delicious. When my dear friend made it for me, I asked her for the recipe and she told me it was based on her banana bread recipe, I didn’t believe her. You can’t taste the banana at all!
