Cornbread Waffles
My kids, of course, usually eat waffles with syrup and butter on top, so it took a little work to convince them to try these savory waffles. In the end, both the cornbread waffles and chili were a big hit!
However, you can definitely enjoy cornbread waffles without chili, and simply serve them with butter and honey on top.
What to serve on cornbread waffles:
- Homemade Chili
- Butter
- Jam
- Honey

Hi there-
Can you sub the sugar for honey? And for the milk, can you use buttermilk?
Thank you! Can’t wait to try!
Yes that should work! Enjoy!
This was such a fun way to have cornbread with chili! We all enjoyed it.
Does this recipe make 5 waffles? How many waffles per serving?
5 waffles!
Have you ever made them and frozen them? Or made them in advance?
They freeze great! I reheat them in a toaster oven or in the oven!
Made these and they were delicious. I added shredded cheddar cheese and diced jalapeños. So yummy!
Absolutely wonderful! Easy to make, tasty, and will easily become a go to for me from now on, for any meal. Made my very Swedish version of chili to go overtop, and it was the best thing I’ve had all week. Can’t wait for a leftover waffle sandwich for breakfast!
I made this for company tonight and it was deli. I made it with the chilli from this website which was also excellent….the waffle was a really great compliment to the chilli..
WHOA this looks amazing! Okay, so glad I bookmarked it and I’m actually going BACK through my bookmarks to cook new recipes!
How do you “bookmark” them?
Hi there! If you are on your phone…look at top right there should be 3 dots that open up a menu. It will either say bookmark or have a simple star to add to favorites. You can also alternatively add to your home screen. Best of luck
We made these waffles for breakfast and instead of chili, we put bacon pieces and cheese inside. Life changing! Thank you!
This waffle recipe is great!! I paired with our favorite chili… and BOOM! New favorite way to eat chili! This will be how I do it from now on. Thanks so much for sharing!
My family loves this! To quote my husband, “I never want chili any other way!” Thank you!
This looks so good! How did you get the open edges on your waffles?
Thank you so much for this website!
I just don’t fill the pan completely full 🙂 Hope you get to try it soon!
LOVE this recipe!
Hey Lauren!
This maybe Sounds like a stupid question, but i would really love to cook this meal and i’m a bit lost here… 🙁
Is it 1x a 3/4 cup flour and 1x a 1/4 cup cornmeal
OR
1 AND a 3/4 cup flour and 1 AND a 1/4 cup cornmeal
Sorry it really seems like a stupid question you hopefully will answer
Thanks in advance! 🙂
It is 1 AND 3/4 cup flour and 1 AND 1/4 cup cornmeal. Hope you enjoy them!
ahh Lauren! THANK you so MUCH! (Especially for the fast reply!)
No i can finally make them and dig right into them! 🙂
Hello. Thanks for the recipe. I was wondering if I would still need the flour if I was using Maseca which is corn flour rather than cornmeal. Thanks a bunch.
Yes, that would be an okay substitute, just be sure to fluff the flour a bit and measure it into the measuring cup with spoon.
Thanks for the recipe Lauren! I’ve used it several times and my family loves these waffles. I tried to access the recipe today, but I don’t see it anymore. If you click on the picture it send you to a recipe for corn chowder instead. Could you repost the recipe please? Thanks!!
Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention! I’m not sure what went wrong! But I added the recipe again, so it should work for you! Thanks!
I’m having the same problem 🙁
Hi Jessica, I’m so sorry, my site is having technical problems with the recipe card when viewed on a desktop or tablet device. You will be able to see the recipe if you pull it up on your mobile phone. I’m trying to resolve the problem ASAP. Sorry for the inconvenience!
This looks good and I am going to have to try it on my family. I have older boys and I am trying to get them to cook during the week and to use some creativity in there cooking.
