Stornoway Bed and Breakfast Guest House

Stornoway is often the first choice of places to stay on the Isle of Lewis with Stornoway guest house accommodation being the most popular. Although there are many other places to stay on Lewis many prefer the benefits that Stornoway has to offer. The Outer Hebrides are some of the most remote islands in the United Kingdom but contain many important historical sites and some of the most spectacular scenery. While the most dramatic scenes can be found on the west side of Lewis Stornoway can be found on the east coast. As this side is far more sheltered it is the natural place in which to have a port and airport and therefore Stornoway is also the most accessible place in the Outer Hebrides.

Staying in a Stornoway guest house means that you will, more than likely, be staying right in the very heart of the town. Stornoway is rather a busy little place and a massive contrast to the nearby moor lands and extraordinary beaches of the south west coast. In fact you should really make time to visit these most excellent beaches as you are unlikely to see anywhere as beautiful in the whole of Great Britain and, most probably Europe.

Stornoway is dominated by it’s busy little harbor which has a small, but very active, fishing fleet. Nowhere near as busy as it was during the hayday of the herring fishing boom of the late nineteenth/early twentieth centuries, Stornoway is still very much associated with fishing and the atmosphere comes alive when one, or two, of the larger vessels arrive in the harbor.

One of the most obvious landmarks of Stornoway is Lews Castle which can easily be seem from the harbour. Set amongst the most beautiful, and heavily wooded, grounds the castle looks down upon the town. Luckily, if you are staying in Stornoway guest house accommodation you are rarely but a few minutes walk from the castle grounds and I suggest that you visit them at least once while there. Over the last decade or so the local Council has invested heavily in beautifying Stornoway and much has been done to both the town and the grounds.

When visiting the Isle of Lewis you really have two choices to make about the accommodation in which you shall stay. Do you stay in a Stornoway guest house, hotel or other accommodation or do you, instead, opt to stay in accommodation outside the town in an altogether more rural setting. Much depends on your preferences, do you prefer to be close to amenities or is peace and quiet the most important factor to you? With this in mind we shall look at one, highly popular Stornoway guest house and another popular guest house just outside the town.

If you are looking for a quiet location with gorgeous sea views and countryside then the luxurious Holm View Guest house is for you. If you are lucky you will have the pleasure of enjoying a Hebridean sunset in a most wonderful setting able to return to the most comfortable accommodation to be found in a guest house on Lewis. All this and Holm View is only a few minutes drive of the town center of Stornoway.

If you are looking for accommodation in a central location then the Thorlee Guest House is as central as you can get. Set on Stornoway’s sea front the Thorlee is within walking distance of virtually everything the town has to offer. Even Stornoway airport is only a few minuted drive away and the ferry terminal is just a few minutes walk, perfect if you are traveling by ferry.

Wherever you decide to stay on the Isle of Lewis, be it in a Stornoway guest house, bed and breakfast, hotel or a more rural location we can almost guarantee that you will be impressed at the hospitality. The islands are well known for being extremely friendly and this is most evident when you stay in a guest house. We can almost be certain that you will be so impressed with the Outer Hebrides that you will want to return at your earliest opportunity.
